Thursday Morning Commute

There is a lot more traffic then usual on i90 this morning. I spose it's probably due to summer travelers. What was odd was that some people were really speeding a lot while others were moving notably slower then the speed limit. Probably the effects of high gas prices (guess not everyone cares). Friday Morning Commute

Happy Memorial Day Weekend. I was actually surprised that I didn't see more traffic on i90 this morning but maybe most people aren't traveling till tonight or perhaps the high gas prices really are impacting peoples travel plans. Also didn't see any police cars this morning after I've been seeing them on my drive quite a bit lately. What I did see was an unusual high amount of redwing blackbirds. That got me thinking and wondering why it's so common to see them along highways but I never see them in residential areas. I couldn't think of any answer other then that maybe they like road kill but who knows. Might get a little rain this weekend but over all it's suppose to be nice out. Drive safe.

Thursday Morning Commute

We're starting off a bit chilly this morning but things look nice and should be warming up into the 70's for this weekend. That's good news with people traveling and spending time outside for the Memorial Day holiday. With more people on the roads it's a good idea to use a little extra caution and as always drive safe.

Friday Morning Commute

My drive into Rochester, MN along i90 was dry this morning. We had thunderstorms in La Crosse, WI last night though and the sky seemed to get darker the closer I got to Rochester so we probably are in for some wet weather ahead. Have a good weekend and drive safe.

Wednesday Morning Commute

There had been some talk about us getting an inch of snow last night or this morning but as you can see there was no sign of that on i90 on my drive into work today. Still wish it was a bit warmer but at least we aren't shoveling snow anymore. Drive safe and have a good day.

Monday Morning Commute

The sky is pretty gray this morning but i90 was in good shape on my commute to Rochester from La Crosse. They are predicting 2 to 5 inches of snow in Rochester today so that could sicken things up but right now the temp is still well above freezing so it wouldn't surprise me if we don't get anything. Friday Morning Commute

Had to come into work a bit earlier this morning so these pictures were taken between 5:45 and 7 AM. Of course at 5:45 it was pretty dark out so I wasn't able to get very good shots. Overall i90 isn't terrible this morning but there are definitely some slick spots and the passing lane looked pretty bad at times. The roads were just wet in La Crosse but by the time I got up the hill past the Nodine, MN / HWY 12 -- Exit 266, things started to be more frozen and with noticeable ice and snow on the road. I was going around 52 mph and an SUV pulled out into the passing lane to go around me but then ducked back in behind me as it must have been worse then he thought. The roads went back and forth from wet to frozen and after the St Charles, MN -- HWY 74 -- Exit 233 they started improving till I got to Rochester and they were pretty good then. If you're out this morning, slow down a bit and drive safe.

Tuesday Morning Commute

I90 looks great this morning. The sun is out and the road is in great shape. It is a bit windy but that's nothing to worry about. It does look like someone lost a kitchen chair perhaps off a pickup just West of the St Charles, MN Exit 233. It was sitting in the right hand lane as I drove by and I didn't have a chance to grab my camera so watch out for that. Enjoy the sunshine and as always, drive safe. Friday Morning Commute

The big story on this morning's commute was fog. In La Crosse, WI and for the first few miles in MN i90 was in great shape with no fog in site. Then between the Rushford, MN Exit 249 and the Lewiston, MN Exit 242 I ran into all kinds of patchy fog. Then it cleared up for the most part till I ran into some more fog around the Eyota, MN Exit 224. The fog should burn off though as the sun comes up though and the roads are in good shape so things are looking good for driving conditions on i90 today. The fog has made things a bit frosty so there may be a few slick spots of black ice out there but overall things are ok. One thing to keep in mind for this weekend is that it's spose to warm up and that could mean a lot more fog as all this snow melts. As always, drive safe. Pictures taken between 7 and 8 AM.
