Friday Morning Commute

Had to come into work a bit earlier this morning so these pictures were taken between 5:45 and 7 AM. Of course at 5:45 it was pretty dark out so I wasn't able to get very good shots. Overall i90 isn't terrible this morning but there are definitely some slick spots and the passing lane looked pretty bad at times. The roads were just wet in La Crosse but by the time I got up the hill past the Nodine, MN / HWY 12 -- Exit 266, things started to be more frozen and with noticeable ice and snow on the road. I was going around 52 mph and an SUV pulled out into the passing lane to go around me but then ducked back in behind me as it must have been worse then he thought. The roads went back and forth from wet to frozen and after the St Charles, MN -- HWY 74 -- Exit 233 they started improving till I got to Rochester and they were pretty good then. If you're out this morning, slow down a bit and drive safe.

Thursday Roads

Working at home today so won't be making the comute to Rochester. I was out and about however, around a quarter to 8 this morning and i90 look great in La Crosse, WI. It was fine on my way home last night from Rochester, MN as well so I'm sure travelling on it won't be an issue this morning. We are spose to get some snow this afternoon into this evening so keep an eye out for that. As always, drive safe.

Wednesday Morning Commute

I90 looks great again today and unlike yesterday, the wind isn't even that strong. In addition to road condition pictures, I've also decided to start taking and posting pictures of things, cars, etc along my commute that I find interesting. We'll call them Fun Shot of the Day. Enjoy the sunshine and as always drive safe. Pictures taken between 7 and 8 am.

Tuesday Morning Commute

I90 looks great this morning. The sun is out and the road is in great shape. It is a bit windy but that's nothing to worry about. It does look like someone lost a kitchen chair perhaps off a pickup just West of the St Charles, MN Exit 233. It was sitting in the right hand lane as I drove by and I didn't have a chance to grab my camera so watch out for that. Enjoy the sunshine and as always, drive safe. Pictures taken between 7 and 8 AM.

Monday Roads

Was out and about this morning on i90 around La Crosse but am working from home today so no pictures of conditions of i90 in Minnesota. Looks like there is some pretty thick fog in some spots West of the Mississippi River this morning and some of that could have turned into black ice patches as the tempetures fell below freezing last night so do careful if driving out there. On the Wisconsin side of the river though i90 looks great.

Friday Morning Commute

The big story on this morning's commute was fog. In La Crosse, WI and for the first few miles in MN i90 was in great shape with no fog in site. Then between the Rushford, MN Exit 249 and the Lewiston, MN Exit 242 I ran into all kinds of patchy fog. Then it cleared up for the most part till I ran into some more fog around the Eyota, MN Exit 224. The fog should burn off though as the sun comes up though and the roads are in good shape so things are looking good for driving conditions on i90 today. The fog has made things a bit frosty so there may be a few slick spots of black ice out there but overall things are ok. One thing to keep in mind for this weekend is that it's spose to warm up and that could mean a lot more fog as all this snow melts. As always, drive safe. Pictures taken between 7 and 8 AM.

Thursday Morning Commute

This morning's commute was much better then yesturdays. I90 is pretty clean for almost the entire drive from La Crosse, WI to Rochester, MN. There was just a little bit of ice along the outside edge of the passing lane in the strech of about 5 miles before the HWY 52 Exit 218 on i90 but as long as you were in the lane there was no need to slow down. We need more days like this. These pictures were taken between 7 and 8 am.

Wednesday Morning Commute

I90 wasn't nearly as good as I thought it would be this morning. The ramps obviously had some ice on them and while in Wisconsin they seemed fine, but once I got up the hill by Nodine there were plenty of slick spots. The slickest spots seemed to be between the Nodine Exit 266 (HWY 12) and the Winona Exit 252 (HWY 43 N). Then the roads improved a bit again. They worse again though from the St Charles Exit 233 (HWY 74) all the way to the Rochester Exit 218 (HWY 52) this time with lots of blowing snow. HWY 52 seemed to be in pretty good shape but then I saw a huge accident that was backing up traffic heading South on the bridge over US 63 while coming into Rochester. They had police and firetrucks there and I couldn't see what had happened from my lane but it didn't look good. Bottom line is that the roads may be better but they still aren't great so drive carefully. The following pictures were taken between 6:50 and 8:00 pm this morning.

At home again

Working at home again today so no pictures. I'll be making the drive from La Crosse, WI to Rochester, MN the next three days so should have pictures then. From what I can tell on-line, i90 is looking pretty good overall today though you might find a few slick spots so drive careful.

Working from home

No pictures again today as I'm at home. From the looks of reports I've heard and talking to people that's a good place to be today as roads are listed as snow covered and slippery around La Crosse, WI and in MN Dificult Driving is reported in all Southeastern counties that i90 runs through. A person I work with said it was very slick around Rochester this morning so be careful if you are on the roads.

Morning Commute

Overall i90 is in pretty good shape this morning. Do be careful on around the curve by the La Crescent, MN exit as I did see some packed snow in the passing lane heading West (sorry no picture). Other then that though everything was pretty clear. There was some patches of black ice in the passing lane once I got into Olmsted County (around Dover, MN). HWY 52 was also in great shape. All these pictures were taken between 7 and 8 am

Let It Snow

No pictures today as I'm working from home. Probably a good thing to as we got a few inches of snow here in La Crosse ,WI last night and are spose to get more throughout the day. From what I can tell from other on-line sources, roads by Rochester, MN are in better shape but they are definately snow covered closer to La Crosse. Winds are spose to be picking up too which will probably make it pretty hard to see on i90 this afternoon. Drive Safe.
